Camilla “deeply saddened” at loss of dear friend Paul O’Grady

Camilla was preparing for her first state visit as Queen Consort when she received news that nobody ever wants to hear - her friend had passed away. The Queen Consort was set to fly to Germany with husband King Charles - after their trip was initially derailed by protests in France - when the news broke, with Camilla said to be “deeply saddened”. And her spokesperson shared that she will offer her sympathies for Paul’s family “privately in due course.” Camilla and Paul had worked together while she was Duchess of Cornwall, supporting the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. That same establishment also paid tribute to the late Paul, declaring him to have been “a devoted animal lover with the biggest heart.” The two even appeared together on screen as recently as 2022 for a special episode of ITV’s For the Love of Dogs. The series followed the staff at Battersea, and was one that Paul himself had helped to launch a decade prior. It was Paul’s husband, Andre Portasio, who confirmed the news. “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening,” he said. “He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals, and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit, and compassion. “I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years." Paul’s friends - in life and in the industry - returned the favour, taking to social media to thank Paul for his compassion and his service through the years, and to share the overwhelming love they had for the late star. As presenter Carol Vorderman said on BBC radio’s Today, “he just fizzed, he was one of those people that just made you feel every part of you was alive. "He exploded through the daft, made-up rules of society. He was a massive talent, but you can't forget he was a social worker when he was younger, he saved babies and young children from abuse, he lived in Soho before it was gentrified, he never judged the vulnerable, the weak, the misunderstood." One thing everyone could agree on was that Paul was a “lovely, lovely person”, would be sorely missed by many, and had dedicated his life to the pursuit of helping others. "Dear leg, I'll miss you so much": Boy's tragic farewell

A young boy has left a heartbreaking message on his leg after learning that it had to be amputated due to a rare cancer. Chandler Tran, 8, from Australia, and his family first discovered the illness when they found a “pea-sized” bump on his leg and noticed he was walking with a limp when he returned from holiday care around Easter time. Seeking an X-ray at the local hospital, he was then taken to a children’s hospital in Sydney and was given the devastating diagnosis of osteosarcoma, which is a rare bone cancer. The following months comprised of chemotherapy treatment. Doctors then wanted to amputate his leg to alleviate the pain, but the amputation will not cure him. Chandler’s dad Cong Tan, 42, recalled the moment. He said: “Can you take a photo of my leg on my tablet?” “He drew a little love heart over his leg and wrote a little message.” “He wrote: ‘Dear leg, I’ll miss you so much when you’re gone, love Chandler.’ “He was sad about the prospect of losing his leg, but he was like, ‘If that’s what I need to do to not have pain, then that’s okay.’ “For us seeing him coping so well, that really helped us.” Days after recovering from that operation, his family were told the tumours in Chandler’s lungs had grown and the doctors couldn’t do anything more to save his life. “They said any treatment would just be palliative, to try and slow the cancer down,” his mother Trang said. The family has set up a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/jwxjw-support-the-trans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GoFundMe</a> page to help cover eventual funeral costs but also to fund any LEGO that Chandler wants. “The sickness is coming on and we are at the point where we can’t treat it and so it is about keeping him happy,” Mr Tran said. “We appreciate everyone who has donated and is helping us give Chandler whatever his heart desires to make the last bit as enjoyable as possible.” Image: NZ Herald

Bride called out for list of “non-negotiables” at wedding

A Queensland woman has been dubbed a bridezilla for her “non-negotiable” list at her wedding. Kara Hansen took to TikTok announcing that she has been engaged for a year and is organising her wedding. A part of her and her fiancé’s special day includes a list of things that are non-negotiable which Ms Hansen says “may p*** people off”. First on her list was no children under the age of 16 because it is simply “not the right place for them”. “There is loud music, they don’t eat the food, they don’t drink the alcohol, they don’t party, their parents have to leave too, it just feels like it’s not the right place for them,” she says in the video. The second non-negotiable on Ms Hansen’s list is not having dessert when there is cake. “I am not paying for a third course when I have already paid $400 for a wedding cake, I don’t care about keeping the top tier of my wedding cake, you guys can just eat it all,” she says. Other things included in her list are keeping speeches short and sweet and that she will wear a short dress for the reception because she “hates to wear long dresses”. Ms Hansen also said her husband can see her dress before the big day as long as she’s not wearing it, and finally wanting to have coffee with her husband on the morning of the wedding. Several people called out Ms Hansen for her harsh rules saying that everyone will be able to enjoy the day no matter their age. “Sorry, but I am having kids at my wedding, I don’t care if they don’t like the food or they drink just as long as everyone has a good time,” one wrote. “We are having kids at our wedding. We have two flower girls and two ring boys so we feel we can’t have them and not others. It feels wrong to us,” another person commented. Others however agreed with Ms Hansen, calling her list “freaking genius” and that they will be adopting some of her non-negotiables for their weddings. Ghislaine Maxwell opens up about “dear friend” Prince Andrew

Content warning: This article mentions sexual assault and child sexual abuse (CSA). Convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell has spoken about her “dear friend” Prince Andrew and made new claims about a piece of evidence used against the former royal. In an exclusive interview from her jail cell, Maxwell told journalist Daphne Barak that she feels “so bad” for the prince. “I follow what is happening to him,” she told Barak. According to the Sun on Sunday, the outlet that published the interview, Maxwell looked “shaken” when told Andrew’s lawyers had claimed the pair were never close. “I accept that this friendship could not survive my conviction,” she said in response. “He is paying such a price for the association. I consider him a dear friend. I care about him.” The interview is the first since she was convicted of sex trafficking underage girls for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to abuse between 1994 and 2004, for which she was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. It also comes as Andrew’s attempts to salvage his public image continue after he was accused of raping Virginia Giuffre during the period of time when she was a victim of Epstein. Two <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/five-key-details-in-prince-andrew-s-statement-after-settlement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">weeks before the case was due to begin</a> in federal court, the prince settled the case with a reported payment of $US 12 million ($NZ 21.5 million). Though Maxwell refused to deny allegations she was in a relationship with Andrew, she now claims that one of the biggest pieces of evidence used against him is fake. The socialite claimed the infamous image of Andrew with his arm around Giuffre, with Maxwell in the background, was forged and that the “original one” has never been produced. "This photo is not real," Maxwell said of the photo reportedly taken at her London home in March 2001. "There was never an original one produced." According to the Sun, Maxwell wouldn’t speak further on Giuffre, telling Barak: “I don’t even want to start talking about Virginia.” Maxwell’s new claims go against what she has previously said about the image, including a 2015 email where Epstein’s lawyer asked her whether it was real to which she replied: “It looks real. I think it is.” When Barak questioned her about these claims, Maxwell said she had intended to say she recognised the interiors of her house. “I don't recognise that picture and I don't believe it is a real picture,” Maxwell said. “... But I have come to discover that image I don’t believe is true. And the original has never been produced because it doesn’t exist. I don’t believe that image is a true image.” When asked to explain her response to Epstein’s lawyer, Maxwell it didn’t occur to her at the time that the image could have been created by someone. "If you see a photograph and it's a photograph of you in your home, and someone says to you, 'is that a picture of you?' So you don't question," she said. “[It] would never occur to me … that somebody would have created a photograph or, you know, done something with a picture … I recognised the surroundings of that photograph, nothing more than that.” The 60-year-old went on to claim that there were “over 50 problems with the picture” that led her to believe it was fake. When asked about reports she was romantically involved with the prince, Maxwell said she had heard “so many monstrous inaccuracies” about what happened. "I have read and seen and heard and had reported to me so many monstrous inaccuracies that I can't even start to pick apart all of them,” she said, adding that she would be “super-happy” to address them with Barak after her appeal. Maxwell also spoke about the possibility her friendship with Andrew could continue in the future. “I don't have an expectation. People who I have been friends with — and very close friends with … I can't think about what they will want to do or not do,” she said. Pete Evans speaks out on Shane Warne’s death

Controversial chef Pete Evans has spoken out on the sudden death of cricket legend Shane Warne to further push his unpopular health views. Footage of the 49-year-old former TV host has began circulating online, sharing his opinion on Warney's death of a suspected heart attack in a Thailand hotel room. “Shane Warne was an amazing cricket player for sure … (it’s) sad,” Evans said, allegedly during a public Zoom call. “Who knows what the reasons behind this are and I can’t comment on it." “However, so many doctors I’ve interviewed have been screaming for the last year-and-a-half, saying the vaccines are going to cause death like we’ve never seen across the planet." “And they’re all predicting we’re not going to see the outcomes of this — or the real side effects — for the next three to five years. We’re witnessing it happening with athletes on field and there’s a reason behind that.” Several anti-vax conspiracy theorists have also flooded the Facebook comments of several media outlets reporting on the news of the cricketer's death. The same rhetoric was also prevalent on Twitter after the death of Rod Marsh on Friday, who suffered a heart attack a week before he died. “Both dead within one day of each other and Shane’s last tweet was about Rod Marsh’s death. Vaccine injury or coincidence?” one person tweeted. “You really have to wonder if the vaccines killed Rod Marsh and Shane Warne, and if you dismiss it more fool you,” wrote another. Most online users were quick to condemn the “shameful” opportunism of these fringe anti-vax communities. “PSA. People had heart attacks before the vaccine and they will have them after the vaccine! Shane Warne died of a suspected heart attack,” one person posted. “It’s not even confirmed yet, but anti-vaxxers are already signing his death certificate. "My dear late husband": Queen Elizabeth discusses Prince Philip in climate speech

As the COP26 Climate Change Conference commenced in Glasgow, the Queen delivered a powerful speech. Speaking via video message, Her Majesty spoke from the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle to world leaders gathered at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. She encouraged people to work "side by side" to help combat the global effects of climate change, as she referenced her "dear late husband" Prince Philip, who was also passionate about the cause. “I am delighted to welcome you all to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference; and it is perhaps fitting that you have come together in Glasgow, once a heartland of the industrial revolution, but now a place to address climate change,” the Queen said in her message. “This is a duty I am especially happy to discharge, as the impact of the environment on human progress was a subject close to the heart of my dear late husband, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.” Her Majesty recalled Philip's passion for protecting the planet, as she said how proud she was of his legacy. “It is a source of great pride to me that the leading role my husband played in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet, lives on through the work of our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William. I could not be more proud of them.” Speaking to the challenges of the climate emergency, the Queen said that "none of us underestimate the challenges ahead." “History has shown that when nations come together in common cause, there is always room for hope. Working side by side, we have the ability to solve the most insurmountable problems and to triumph over the greatest of adversities.” She went on to say how important fighting the climate crisis is for future generations, as she noted "none of us will live forever": a poignant statement from the 95-year-old monarch how was unable to attend the summit in person due to health reasons. Dear Evan Hansen is an inspiring and entertaining film

When Dear Evan Hansen was released on Broadway over five years ago it became a generation defining Broadway phenomenon. Now we have the film version with Ben Platt reprising the main role and he does this with breathtaking results. Some critics have complained it's not realistic for Platt to play Evan Hansen in the film version because Platt’s now 27 years old and it’s difficult for him to play an anxious, isolated high schooler. But does it matter that he’s a bit older now? Well, from an audience's point of view, it doesn’t and when Platt starts to sing those amazing songs, we can see why he won an Emmy and a Grammy for the Broadway production. As well, we have the song-writing team from La La Land and The Greatest Showman writing the songs and everything works. Plus, the serious nature of this film – the fact it deals with teenage suicide and how hard it is for some people to simply get by – makes it an important film and one which could help a lot of people. This makes Dear Evan Hansen an important and inspiring film. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CjA50VxlxAw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> The storyline The gist of the story is that Evan Hansen is a high school loner, awkward and inept with his only friend being the equally nerdy Jared (Nik Dodani). He shows up on the first day of school with a cast after breaking his arm, and he’s been instructed by his therapist to write “Dear Evan Hansen” letters to himself in order to work out his issues connecting with other people. Fellow student Connor Murphy (Colton Ryan) has a run-in with Evan and grabs one of said letters from a printer. A few days later, Connor’s mother Cynthia and stepfather Larry (Amy Addams, Danny Pino) show up at Evan’s school with the letter saying that Connor committed suicide, and they’ve determined that the letter “to Evan” was his suicide note. Instead of telling them the truth, Evan concocts an elaborate lie about being friends with Connor in order to sooth his parents’ misgivings about his death. In order to maintain that illusion, Evan continues to lie to them as well as to Connor’s sister, Zoe (Kaitlyn Dever from Book Smart), and his lie just snowballs. Pretty soon, the school’s social justice activist Alana (Amandla Stenberg) has up the Connor Project so that others who feel alone can feel seen and heard, and Evan has become hugely popular at school. But this doesn’t last forever and Hansen has to face up to his lie later on. <img style="width: 0px; height: 0px;" src="/nothing.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/5d05305e536f427786bcdaecf7d7a755" /><img style="width: 500px; height: 359.29432013769366px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7844257/evan-hansen-2-um.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/5d05305e536f427786bcdaecf7d7a755" /> The singing really does work Although a lot of the focus of the singing is on Platt and his quite beautiful voice, each of the other primary cast have some amazing singing moments, whether it’s Stenberg doing a song about feeling anonymous like Connor or the song, Requiem, which shows off the amazing singing prowess of Devo, Pino, and even Adams. Julianne Moore, who plays Evan’s hardworking single mother, even gets an absolutely epic number towards the end which will get the waterworks flowing if nothing beforehand has done that job. The showstopper is You Will be Found The movie’s absolutely showstopper is the number You Will be Found and it’s another great example of how the songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of La La Land fame translate so well to the screen. In fact, this song alone shows you why many people became obsessed with the Broadway version of Dear Evan Hansen. The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Wonder).and he shows here he has a strong grasp on social media, cyber bullying, viral videos, and even cancel culture and how it destroys people, including families. <img style="width: 0px; height: 0px;" src="/nothing.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/6a5aa0b50b9b4978b0a9de506110c641" /><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.6550348953141px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7844259/evan-hansen-um.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/93c5188b8e734808ba1159d8b2176137" /> Dear Evan Hansen will be in cinemas by December 9 The film brings out many emotions and one of the reasons is because as we watch it, we can relate to so much of what Hansen is going through. The characters and the story feel very real, which is as much a testament to Chbosky as a filmmaker, but also his cast and the people behind the original musical. There’s a good reason why Dear Evan Hansen was such a success on Broadway, and a great deal of that is retained by the movie. “My dear Prime Minister”: Alan Jones’ apology letter to Jacinda Ardern revealed

Australian radio host Alan Jones said he “did not intend to suggest any violence” towards Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in an apology letter. On August 15, Jones was addressing Ardern’s meeting with Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the Pacific Islands Forum on his breakfast show when the broadcaster suggested Morrison should “shove a sock down her throat” to silence her climate change views, and that Ardern should be “backhanded”. The comments sparked widespread backlash, with <a href="https://mumbrella.com.au/acma-receives-over-100-complaints-about-alan-jones-jacinda-ardern-comments-598626">over 100 complaints made to the Australian Communications and Media Authority</a> against the radio station 2GB. More than 100 advertisers – including Coles, Bing Lee and the Commonwealth Bank – took a stance against the program. In a letter obtained by <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/sep/19/my-dear-prime-minister-alan-joness-apology-letter-to-jacinda-ardern-revealed">The Guardian</a>, Jones said his comments “didn’t come out quite as I intended”. “My dear Prime Minister,” the letter read. “I would like to assure you that I did not intend to suggest any violence towards you. “While I may disagree with your stance on climate change, I would never wish any harm to you. “I had meant to say ‘put a sock in it’ and my actual words were taken literally by some who took offence on your behalf.” Jones then invited Ardern to do an on-air interview to discuss the climate change issue. “I would also like to extend a standing invitation to participate in an interview on my programme,” he wrote. “Again, my sincerest apologies and please know I wish you and your family only the best.” Last month, Ardern told AM show that Jones had a right to his opinions. “I don’t have an opinion on every single person who says something about me,” Ardern said. “And particularly given this is an Australian commentator, we’ve got enough of our own to occupy my time without me having to jump into something that an Aussie says.” Macquarie Media chairman Russell Tate said <a href="https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/alan-jones-contract-will-be-torn-up-if-he-repeats-ardern-comments-employer-says-20190817-p52i54.html">any repeat offences would lead to Jones’ contract being terminated</a>. “Notwithstanding his apologies, I have … discussed the matter with Alan and advised him that any recurrence of commentary of this nature will result in the termination of his contract,” Tate said.

IBM is urging the tech sector to use technology for the good of humanity instead of its downfall in an open letter to the industry called “Dear Tech”. According to the firm, the world needs tech companies that can apply “smart technologies at scale with purpose and expertise — not just for some of us, but for all of us”. As the global tech giant held its annual Think summit in Sydney, it showcased the mindboggling ways that artificial intelligence is being used to tackle the world’s biggest problems, according to <a href="https://thenewdaily.com.au/life/tech/2019/05/22/ibm-think-summit-2019/">The New Daily.</a> <div class="embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9"> <iframe class="embed-responsive-item" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gNF8ObJR6K8"></iframe></div> Stefan Harrer says that healthcare is ideal for the use of artificial intelligence (AI). “Ultimately we want to be able to use and develop technology to improve peoples’ lives,” Dr Harrer said. “We want to build tech that can help improve the lives of people that suffer from a variety of diseases. “That requires that we do cutting-edge research and develop the tech and think hard about how to translate it into trustworthy and impactful solutions.” However, as AI becomes more commonplace, it’s more important than ever that there are strict ethics in place around it. “It’s as important to pay enough attention to getting the ethical framework right around AI as it is the technology,” Dr Harrer said. “This revolution will not look like the information revolution, it’s not move fast and break things.”

Sarah Ferguson’s incredibly touching tribute to “dear Diana”

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, made an incredible touching honour to the late Princess Diana, her close friend and confidante before her death in 1997. In a social media post, Ferguson shared a collection of photographs of some of the “strong women” in her life, including her late mother and her two daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. "Thinking of some of the strong women who've been part of my life – my late mother, my dear departed friends Diana and Carolyn Cotterell and of course my fierce, beautiful, loving daughters who make me proud every day," she captioned the images. Fairfax reports Elrach had no intention of her letter ever seeing the light of day, she merely used it as preparation for her confrontation with her husband. “I was on the verge of breaking many times, and I felt guilty and embarrassed that I could not keep up with the physical, mental and emotional workload that all of us moms endure. Aussie supermodel Miranda Kerr has confirmed she is expecting a child with new husband Evan Spiegel. Doctors respond to Pete Evans’ controversial dairy claims

Celebrity chef and Paleo diet devotee Pete Evans has copped backlash once again after he suggested dairy actually removed calcium from bones during a Facebook Q & A session on the weekend. The claims come after he responded to a question from an osteoporosis sufferer, telling her to “[remove] dairy and [eat] the paleo way as calcium from dairy can remove the calcium from your bones,” adding, “most doctors do not know this information.” His comments incurred outrage from doctors around the country, namely Dr Brad Robinson who addressed Evans in an open letter on Facebook. “You are a chef, not a doctor,” Dr Robinson wrote. “You are not someone who magically knows things that the sum of total generations of medical research has determined.” Other members of the medical community have also voiced their anger at Evans’ claims and their support for Dr Robinson’s letter. Medical director of Osteoporosis Australia Dr Peter Ebeling said the My Kitchen Rules chef’s suggestion was based on outdated data proven to be untrue. “It is important to get calcium from your diet,” Dr Ebeling told <a href="http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-29/how-important-is-calcium-doctors-have-their-say-pete-evans/7794132" target="_blank">ABC News</a>. “Dairy products are the richest sources of calcium in our diet.” Contrary to what Evans said, neglecting dairy in our diets actually puts us at risk of osteoporosis and other bone health issues. Additionally, those who consumed more dairy were found to live a healthier life, according to a 2013 study. “Calcium is an important building block for healthy bones throughout life – through childhood to older age,” Dr Ebeling added.
